Artilo was founded by David McConnell, whose career has always centred on visual impact. Before founding Artilo, David spent decades working as a professional makeup artist, then went on to found the Academy of Makeup and the makeup brand Gorgeous Cosmetics.

In photographic makeup, success relies on a refined eye for balance, tone, texture and light. Near enough is never good enough. Each artwork begins as a concept, then goes through a process of careful revision until the balance, light and composition feel resolved.
